Fireplaces

May 11th, 2012

Having lived in  gorgeous Knysna, in the South African Garden Route, for the last five years I have come to enjoy not only the scenery but the fabulous friendly people, the stunning bird life, the beaches and so much more; however I have trouble adjusting from the glorious summer days to the autumn and winter cool mornings and really cold nights.

Part of this could be due to the fact that we have stayed in a home which wasn’t blessed with a fireplace. Heaters are good but somehow nothing remotely compares to the magic of warm golden flames which radiate heat and homely flickers of light around the room.

We recently moved home and one evening after a hard day at work; hope my mean boss is reading this; and unpacking boxes I came into the sitting room to find a newly made fire, stoked to perfection, inviting me to slip my tired bones into an armchair and relax there in front of it’s glory.

You should know that sipping a scotch is great but sipping a scotch after a hard day of unpacking in front of  a fabulous fire…now that is the way to enjoy an evening at home.

What do you do when you don’t have one? Not a scotch, a fireplace? Have you ever been to Penny Pinchers? They offer an extensive range of quality fireplaces.

A Buyers Market

March 4th, 2012

It’s mostly doom and gloom in Knysna these days. Most businesses are trying to put a brave face on it and everyone is looking for that light at the end of the tunnel. But it’s hard work staying focused, staying positive.  Some are saying that sixty five percent of the available space in the Industrial area is vacant. And if that is true it doesn’t bode well for the rest of us who are hanging on by our finger nails.

But at the same time it also means that rentals must be coming down and this has got to be a good time to start looking at industrial properties for rent in Knysna if not industrial properties for sale in Knysna

Geo. Parkes & Sons

January 26th, 2012

Geo. Parkes & Sons are saw millers, timber merchants and manufactureres of treated agricultural poles. A company that has been an integral part of the Knysna community for over a century. They own large tracts of forests where the timber is grown and harvested. The plantations are responsibly managed and the trees are mainly Pinus Radiata, a hard Cape Pine that is ideal for decking and poles.

The timber is then sawn at their sawmill and dried to produce decking and fencing pickets. Wooden poles are turned at both the sawmill as well as well as on site in the plantations. They also stock a wide range of indigenous hard woods.
